The Dom Robert Museum

The Museum of Dom Robert and 20th century tapestries opened its doors in 2015. It is housed in the body of monumental buildings that make up the Sorèze Abbey-School (XVII-XVIII centuries) located in Tarn county and owned by the local administrators. Today, the site is managed by a joint association of the Occitanie region, the Tarn county and the town of Sorèze.  It is a cultural ensemble known by the name of the CITÉ DE SORÉZE. It includes the Dom Robert and 20th Century Tapestry Museum, the interpretive circuit of the former School of Sorèze, a park with century-old trees, as well as reception halls, an auditorium and artist workshops.

GENERAL PRESENTATION

The Museum of Dom Robert and 20th century tapestries was created and financed by the joint association governing the Abbey-school of Sorèze. The museum showcases the work of Dom Robert and his contemporaries, as well as the skills of the weavers at the Aubusson workshops, skills designated as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2009.

The Museum and its collections

The collections of the Dom Robert Museum and 20th-Century Tapestry Museum, located within the Cité de Sorèze, consist of: - The majority of Dom Robert's (1907-1997) woven, painted, and drawn works - A collection of works by tapestry cartoon artists from the second half of the 20th century, originating from: - the collection of Suzanne Goubely's Aubusson workshop, primarily Mario Prassinos and Michel Tourlière. - three recent donations from 20th-century tapestry cartoon artists: in 2020: Pierre Sulmon (1932-2008) in 2022: Yves Millecamps (born in 1930) in 2025: Jacques Brachet (1928-2024)
