Dom Robert Path
From Dourgne to Massaguel
The Dom Robert Trail,
From Dourgne to Massaguel, in the footsteps of Dom Robert.
As of spring 2020, walkers in the Montagne Noire taking the county trail referred to as “the Saint-Ferréol desert” (in French « désert de Saint-Ferréol ») come upon a new signpost indicating the direction to the trail Dans les pas de Dom Robert (in English Following in the footsteps of Dom Robert). This trail allows walkers to experience the landscapes which inspired the artist monk from the Abbey of En Calcat.

This 13 km loop trail (taking around 4 hours to walk) includes a side path to Massaguel to visit the church there. The church features a large wall painting in the choir by Dom Robert as well as stained-glass windows from the 1950s by Dom Ephrem Socard, monk at En Calcat and Henri Guérin.
Eleven panels, numbered from the given starting point in Dourgne, have been placed all along the path in function of a variety of landscapes which highlight the relationship between Dom Robert's work and nature.
A rambler and a master sketcher, Dom Robert explored the countryside surrounding the monastery in all seasons for over nearly half a century … almost always staying within range of the bells announcing the religious services!
