GENERAL PRESENTATION

General Presentation

The Museum of Dom Robert and 20th century tapestries was created and financed by the joint association governing the Abbey-school of Sorèze. The museum showcases the work of Dom Robert and his contemporaries, as well as the skills of the weavers at the Aubusson workshops, skills designated as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2009.

The museum's design and its scenography were entrusted to Susanna Ferrini, architect (at the firm of n!studio, Rome, Italy) at the outcome of a competition launched in 2012.

Spanning 1,500 meters of exhibition space, the museum is home to a unique collection of tapestries including the greater part of Dom Robert's woven oeuvre, yet also some fifty tapestries of other 20th-century artists. They range from those involved in initiating revival of tapestry making such as Jean Lurçat and Marcel Gromaire, to abstract painters such as Henri-Georges Adam, Yves Millecamps, Mario Prassinos and Michel Tourlière.
